Consultancy Services

I offer several different types of consultancy that draw on prior successes transforming health systems and university counseling centers' treatment models. They focus primarily on generating strong, measurable outcomes from group therapy programming and also include training in measurement-based care and program evaluation.

Prior experience

As system Chief of Clinical Integration and Research Dr. Whittingham transformed Mercy Health's system (at the time, 7 inpatient and 7 outpatient units), training and measuring outcomes in evidence-based group psychotherapy. The system was awarded a commendation for excellence in group psychotherapy by the American Group Psychotherapy Association for this work. I have also been involved in university counseling centers' group therapy program improvement and measurement. This has included improving attendance, reducing premature dropout, improving outcomes and increasing staff morale.

I frequently give consultations to university counseling centers on how to build or improve their group therapy services.

This involves topics such as:

Generating successful referrals
Building a group therapy culture
Incorporating measurement-based care
Measuring process and outcomes to promote growth and accountability
Predicting into challenging group dynamics
Group leadership skills
Working with challenging interpersonal styles

International Consultancy and Workshops

I work internationally giving talks and workshops in a wide range of countries, including China, United Kingdom and Singapore

I have partnered with China Institute of Psychology for over ten years to launch many trainings in China and am about to launch a certification in FBGT during 2026.

I will also be launching extensive training on medical groups in partnership with Tsinghua University Psychiatry department and CIP in Beijing.

Outpatient Services and Agencies

I work extensively with hospitals and agencies wishing to start or improve their group therapy offerings. I have a proven record of generating measurably improved outcomes in attendance, client outcome and reducing premature dropouts. My methods include establishing core foundations, building a culture of learning and constant quality improvement. I incorporate measurement-based care into group treatment and theory and considers the whole system. These methods fit with both triple aim goals and methodology and the needs of universities and health systems to promote access to quality treatment. You can discuss options for these trainings based on the needs and sought outcomes for an agency or center.
