Group Therapy
I offer groups for clients and therapists using focused brief group therapy, an approach I developed and researched over a ten year period. It is well-now used extensively nationally and internationally and I regularly give national and international trainings for group leaders.
FBGT works on reducing interpersonal distress. It uses assessment to tailor treatment to the specific interpersonal issues that are concerning you. We will then explore the strengths of your interpersonal style and the areas you wish to work on. We will explore together what areas of your life your interpersonal style is working in and identify together where things are working less well and what you want to change. The group members will meet and work on similar or different issues together. I hold the group as a safe container, helping people understand themselves and others more deeply and encouraging people to attempt changes in the group. The groups typically last 15 weeks and members have defined goals that we check in on weekly, based on what we collaboratively identified as worthy of attention. At the end of the group we assess change and look at how those changes can be implemented in different contexts in your life so they are successful.

About the groups
Groups run on Mondays during the afternoon and evening. There is an initial screening and pre-group preparation process that helps set you up for success.
I meet with potential members individually first to complete a full assessment. If the group seems like a good fit, I will then give you assessment tools to complete online. Once they are completed we will meet individually and discuss the interpersonal distress you are experiencing. I will show you the results from the tools and we will then discuss if they seem correct and how and where they apply to your life. We will explore how your interpersonal strengths and challenges impact different contexts in your life. The process is affirming of your strengths and we will use the results to set behavioral goals for treatment.
Once group begins you will need to arrive in plenty of time so we can start promptly. Each group lasts 90 minutes and we run for 15 sessions. At the end of the group we meet to debrief, after you first complete the assessment tools again to see what changes occurred. We then discuss how you might apply these changes and what to expect when you do so.
